This weeks staff pick comes from Bongo family member Heather. Heather's chosen a recent re-stock - Demon Fuzz's 'Afreaka', available here.
"One of my favourite albums of all time, it's got it all, jazzy compositions, psychedelic break downs and my favourite; guitars! I first heard 'Past, Present and Future' thinking it would be riffs galore, but hearing that solo go in to a full band percussive break down blew me away. A classic example of how a long drawn out introduction can make a verse that much sweeter.
The album was originally released in 1970 on Dawn Records, after the band had moved from various Commonwealth countries to Britain. Thanks to the groups mixed heritage, and a trip to Morocco they site as their emergence, they created a sound almost impossible to pin-down. Described as afro-rock, progressive soul, and jazz, for me this record is hard to beat."
